Take That este o formatie pop din Manchester, Anglia, înfiintata în 1990. În prezent trupa e formata din Gary Barlow, Howard Donald si Mark Owen.
Din componenta initiala mai faceau parte Jason Orange si Robbie Williams. Dupa succesul obtinut în anii 1990 cu albume precum Take That and Party sau Everything Changes , Robbie Williams, unul dintre membrii a hotarat sa paraseasca formatia în favoarea unei cariere solo. Astfel, grupul s-a destramat în plina glorie.
În anul 2005, la noua ani de la destramare, cei patru componenti ramasi în trupa au hotarat sa se reuneasca. Albumul Beautiful World, lansat în 2006 a readus Take That în atentia publicului.
Formatia a avut 28 de single-uri top 40 si 17 single-uri de top 5 în Regatul Unit, 12 dintre care au atins pozitia 1, dar si sapte albume de locul 1. Pe plan international, trupa a avut 56 de single-uri de pozitia 1 si 37 de albume „number 1”. Take That a obtinut opt premii Brit Awards pentru cea mai buna formatie britanica si cea mai buna interpretare live a unei trupe sau interpret din regat.
De la formarea trupei si pana în prezent, Take That a comercializat peste 33 de milioane de albume pe plan international.

1921 – Born Alan Freed, American radio DJ who gave the genre ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ its name. Died January 20, 1965. Freed deserves to be remembered for his adventurous – even reckless – efforts on behalf of the music he loved His first non-segregated dance nights often defied local customs, and his preferences for black artists were not universally appreciated.
1944 – The American musician, arranger and composer Glenn Miller dies, the plane he was on disappears due to unfavorable weather conditions, in a flight over the English Channel. Glenn Miller was traveling to sing for American troops in France during World War II. Miller was a best-selling artist between 1939 and 1943, leading one of the world’s greatest bands, the Glenn Miller Orchestra. In just four years, Glenn Miller had 23 No. 1 songs.
1955 – Paul Simonon, bassist of The Clash, was born.
1977 – The Who play a secret concert for fan club members only at London’s SheppertonStudios. The concert will be recorded and later used in the movie “The Kids Are Allright”.
1977 – The Sex Pistols are denied entry into the United States due to convictions for drug possession and use.
1979 – Pink Floyd hit #1 in the UK with “Another Brick In The Wall Part II”. The song will remain there for 5 weeks and will receive a nomination at the Grammy Awards, in the “Best Performance by a RockDuo or Group” category. When they first recorded this song, it contained a stanza and a chorus, lasting 1:20. Producer Bob Ezrin wanted to make it longer, but the band refused. While they were gone, Ezrin extended the track by introducing the children’s choir on the second verse, adding some drums and copying the first chorus at the end. He played it for Waters, who liked what he heard.
1984 – ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’, the BandAid single, went to number one in the UK chart and stayed there for five weeks. Band Aid was a band created by former Boomtown Rats frontman BobGeldof who was moved by a news story about famine in Ethiopia. Geldof had the idea to raise funds with a charity single, recorded with the cream of the pop-rock world. Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Paul Young, Culture Club, George Michael, Sting, Bono, Phil Collins, Paul Weller, Francis Rossi and Status Quo’s Rick Parfitt are among the artists who have recorded the track.
2001 – The Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh receives an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Kent State University in Ohio, United States.
2003 – Courtney Love is sentenced by a court to 18 months in a drug rehab clinic after admitting to drug use. Love was arrested in October after allegedly trying to break into the home of former manager and boyfriend Jim Barber. Authorities said she tested positive for cocaine and other opiates.
